High Time for Corporate Deviation

lobbying for governemnt contracts is nothing new. somebody has to rebuild after disasters, and guess what...it costs money. I don't know what she's whining about, nobody is going to have to declare bankruptcy due to the storm...it's called reporting a loss. It use to be really easy to declare bankruptcy, and then bam, all your employees are sol on their retirement funds...it's a bit harder now so people/corporations are held responsible for their actions. She just wants to have her cake, eat it, complain about how it tastes, get 6 more pieces of cake, eat all of them and complain about every single piece.

I don't think she was implying people would be filing for bankruptcy because of the storm man. The part you're referring to she was referring to the effects this will have on those that were planning on filing before the 17th of October the date the new law goes in effect.

Air America. Randi Rhodes. Of course, Mike Malloy is far more luny. I tell you, if those two aren't secretly on Karl Rove's payroll, the GOP got a huge gift on these clowns.

Anyway, I did just skim over the original article before I started laughing about Air America. I brings up some legitimate points. Granted, one could call me biased because I had to file bankruptcy a few weeks ago myself after a failed business venture, but there is truth to it. There were numerous provisions in the "bankruptcy reform" that would have exempted the tough new means test for people with circumstances such as sky-high medical bills and natural disasters, as mentioned. And the Republicans shot them down. Hey, I'm far more conservative than liberal on most issues, but call it what it is...a giveaway to the banking industry on the backs of the working people.

Most of the contracts nowadays are no-bid contracts. When the disaster first arose I knew in my mind who would be given the contracts to rebuild. And a week or so later, my instincts were correct.

But yes you are correct about your analysis of this woman.

The government always has some no bid contracts in place that are pre-negotiated for times when they cannot sit around and wait for a bidding process to take place. When time allows, there should be a detailed bidding procedure between competing companies, but too often the elistist circle in Washington takes care of its own...and it crosses political lines to take care of each other. For example, Haliburton made a killing during the 90s while Cheney actually WAS involved with the company (partisan hacks act as if he is currently the sole owner) from operations in the Balkans. By the same token, you now have a Republican administration in office now and I heard the other day that Wesley Clark has some significant investment in a company that has been given military contracts.
