Duke LaCrosse

Anyone else troubled by the case? It has bothered me since day one that everyone is acting like it happened without a doubt. It goes to show the innocent until proven guilty thing has gone to hell. Coach resigned and I would guess did it for being under the pressure. So many pointed fingers at the boys when it was one girl's accusations. Is anyone besides me upset that these guys have not been treated with the innocent until proven guilty condition?

And according to recent reports the girl making the claims hasn't even identified anyone who raped her and the dna does not match. Then you have everyone pointing the racial card. I get sick and tired of that time after time when it in fact is the case. I think the minority in case loves to come rushing in whenever there is a popular case like this. They are complaining about nothing being done when the girl hasn't pointed the finger at anyone.

These boys on the team now have a tainted year and who knows what else is going on with them. The team's season is cancelled if I'm not mistaken isn't it?

Thoughts?

And don't get me wrong. I think any sexual abuse case should be investigated and racism is absolutely uncalled for. I am just concerned with accusations and inappropriate effects they cause when they may not be warranted.

Rape happens way more than it's reported, it's a touchy subject, particularly when it involves two different races which is unfortunate but probably exacerbated things where it occured, but if it has merit then whatever, but I'll just end this run-on sentence with who gives a fuck. It's a Duke University problem, some stupid kids with alcohol who hired an exotic dancer, and there's supposed to be nothing wrong that could happen??? Idiot kids. If I saw the stripper I hired was fucked up when she arrived I'd throw her ass out of there immediately or tell her to fix herself up before I called her superiors and that's real. I don't fuck around when it comes to my money. Frankly if she was raped at some point I hope the right person is caught, but if not damn that sucks for those accused. Either way, let this be a lesson to us all. We are mostly naive those of us on the outside. And face it we are STUPID when we get together with our friends at the college age plain and simple. Like I said it sucks for all involved, but hey I can be about as apathetic as they come when I want to be, so fuck those guys at Duke. Waste of Sportscenter air time. Rape is like the hardest thing to prove in a court of law anyway. ESPN...just tell me what they are accused of when they are accused, and then tell me the results of it when it's safe to say it's all said and done. Keep it out of television. I understand it's affecting the sports world, but if I'm trying to sober up at 6 o clock and I have to find the damn remote control to change the channel and move my head down below the couch to the floor to reach it I'd better be changing it to a channel I was looking for in the first place instead of changing it to avoid hearing about implications and predictions from some douchebag attourney or expert. I damn near fell off the couch the other day man...anyway yeah I hope if she was raped the person/people that did it get theirs. I'm sure most of us know someone who's been raped and can imagine what that means to have to deal with that. If she is lying OR and this is a big difference if she can't prove it then that sucks too. If she was lying about being raped by the guys on the team and knows who it was then that is horrible for her to do, but still if she was raped she couldn't have been in the right mindset or emotionally stable. If she was straight up lying then she should be punished.

One thing I will say and it has nothing to do with this particular case at all, but it is obvious that even in our feminized culture today that men still are top dog in this country and rape accusers (read women) are usually looked at with doubt from the get-go. It's almost like we believe that despite the fact that most rapes are not reported (and for obvious reaons that we all can come up with off the top of our heads) that innocent until proven guilty means that we are right to think right away that "this had better be true because if it isn't this is too serious and it could ruin some people's lives," as if to say the woman is wrong/guilty until it's otherwise proven. It should be that we let the evidence and testimony speak for itself objectively, but we know that is hardly ever the case publicly, which is a good reason to keep it off our airwaves until it's settled. This is not some kind of situation where a politician is on trial either.

As much as public interest plays into why these things are reported on Sportscenter for example public opinion lends itself as an indicator of our bias whether it be racist in anyway or shovenist. But from whenever I've heard people talking about a rape trial or someone in our community who has accused another of rape you'd think that men believe false rape reports are a majority because rape just doesn't happen that often and women lie more to hide some sort of shame. Women tend to be even critical of women when it comes to this in the nature that they can behave when someone is in an abusive relationship(she brings this on herself...it's her fault etc...) I roll my eyes when people say that. In my experience that is how it is UNLESS that is they know the woman personally. That's where it all changes in opinion and that is yet another reason I feel private citizens' trials/proceedings/updates should not be televised and certainly not nationally and this DUKE Lacrosse team thing falls under that. If you want to talk about how this could severely damage someone's life then let's keep it off the tube. The newspaper is a different animal in my opinion lol, but that's just me. I feel if you are going to take the time to read about and follow it on your own then you'll at least be able to add positively instead of being ignorant to it. I'm pretty ignorant to this DUKE case albeit I've read shit that is online, but like I said I don't care about it despite the fact that I wish no one any unwarranted harm. I feel that it's none of my business.

I do believe that. But many men have been sentenced for rapes they did not commit. This is a combination of bogus accusations and shoddy police work convicting the wrong guy.

It is a terrible crime, but unfortunately there is probably no crime that is easier to both get away with and get wrongfully convicted of. That is why in philosophy class years ago, I argued against capital punisHydromaxent for rapists and even against extremely long sentences. Obviously, I'm talking about a questionable incident, not something like a serial rapist where a clear pattern can be accomplished.

If I saw the stripper I hired was fucked up when she arrived I'd throw her ass out of there immediately or tell her to fix herself up before I called her superiors and that's real.

And you'd be a fool to do that. If you call a stripper, escort, etc. you are at their mercy if they don't show up as promised or fail to perform. An industry trick that nailed a friend of mine was could be used on you at any time. My friend ordered an escort out of the yellow pages (risky thing, I'm sure) and she showed up telling him she had to walk out and deliver the money to her driver. She didn't return and, to buy herself some time, she called the police and told them there was crack cocaine in the room when the wasn't anything illegal in the room. So, the cops come in and toss the place, put my friend through the ringer and try to get him to admit he was paying for sex.

I certainly hope justice is done in this case, no matter what that may be. But I find it tough to believe her since there was no DNA match.

But from whenever I've heard people talking about a rape trial or someone in our community who has accused another of rape you'd think that men believe false rape reports are a majority because rape just doesn't happen that often and women lie more to hide some sort of shame.

I don't believe the majority of reported rapes are bogus claims, but I do think a substantial amount of them are.

Also, it amazes me that people look at this with such shame. Come on, this is 2006 people. If a woman is raped, then it's no fault or shame of hers. It is sad that rapes go unreported for this reason.

Yeah I wouldn't ever pay for strippers and never have. I don't even like going to strip joints. I can't help but laugh at everyone in there. They actually are very sad places in my opinion. As for that little industry trick...oh no. I don't let people even touch my money until I'm certain I'm getting what I paid for. You know that scene in 'Do the Right Thing,' where Radio Raheem is paying for batteries for his boom box and tells the clerks to count the batteries, well I can get like that sometimes lol. "Count em again." There's no way I let the stripper out of my sight with my money like that. "I'll be right back" isn't cutting it with me. I'd tell her that I'll go out there and pay him and she can come with me lol.

But I agree again with you.
