A fundamental concept of liberalism is to pick a group of victims and obsess over them. This obsession blinds them to the other groups who are hurt in the process. Their arguments are usually valid in favor of their victim group but never address the people whose lives are adversely affected as a result. The media has always felt if they ignore a problem, then it doesn't exist.
For example, you never see stories about American children who are adversely affected by illegal immigration, but you see hundreds about struggling illegal immigrants. The media has picked their victim group and ignores all else.
The real solution to illegal immigration is to help Mexico get on its feet. Most of these people don't want to come here, they want to live in Mexico.
What if Americans moved to Canada? What then? Can the Canadians handle a huge influx of Americans? Of course not. But taking that a step further: will Canadians then move to Russia? Will Russians then move to Germany? And Germans to France? The French to Spain? The Spanish to Mexico? Then the Mexicans to America? Where does it end?
I think the Mexicans are crying out for help and we should help them - help them stay in their homeland. They have a corrupt ruling class like most third world countries.
Of course, nobody will bother with that because it's too much trouble and would require years of serious planning and effort. Our politicians want "solutions" that get them elected, they have no desire to fix anything or actually help anyone. In fact, they often create problems on purpose so they can campaign on "fixing" them. Lawyers are the root of all problems.
