Does the bathmate need water to work. Or can it be used as an
Air pump also?

If you have the Xtreme model you can use the hand ball pump. Or if you have a regular model you could modify it with Vacu-Vin.
But honestly it works best with water, I wouldn't consider Bathmate as an air pump, basically the function / best use is in the name.

Definitely do the wine vacuum modification because this will make your Bathmate so much more powerful!
