You have got to See Troy!!

I have to say I was not terribly impressed, though I wasn't expecting anything amazing. It was interesting to see how the writers boiled down the Illiad into a single two hour film, as well as wrote out numerous characters and the influence of the gods. Overall though, the performances are flat, the dialouge borders on parody (I think this may have been intentional though), and the cinematography has a washed out metallic feel that didn't convey much vibrancy. This is one of those films that is arguably more enjoyable viewed as a half hour highligt reel when the DVD is released.

I did hear a snippet of an interview with the director where he stated that he thought "Homer would smile" if he saw how they had reworked the Illiad. That at least was quite a laugh.

It was a great film.

They changed the Illiad a lot though. My favorite part was when Aeneas was carrying Anchises like he is shown in most statues and he flees with the sword of Troy.

Aeneas is the ancestor of the Romans.

I saw it opening night and was not impressed. I'm fine with it being a Brad Pitt vehicle and all, but when the movie makes it a point to simply show him off and spend most of its time presenting him as some sort of bronze god, I couldn't get very attached to it. Too much CGI, overused Enya-like musical score - in essense too much fluff and too little substance.

I went to a sell-out crowd and I'd say that 50% of the people were teenie-boppers. What bothers me is that the filmmakers took them into consideration and attempted to make this movie appealing to them maybe moreso than the rest of us (even with the R rating).

That said, it had its moments and maintained an "epic" feel throughout - hadn't had one of those in a while. Plus, it was nice to see Peter O'Toole in a decent sized role. Oh, and Eric Bana kicks some major ass - that guy is intense!

2 stars

Well...I wouldn't say that the score sounded like Enya at all. It was very James Horner, and I thought he did a great job with it.

Why did it have to be Orlando Bloom that used a bow? Can't we move away from Legolas? And I agree about the whole Brad Pitt thing. I mean, he's an incredible actor when he wants to be, but this was definitely not his best work. More like a "Look at me, I'm sexy" type of thing.

I just seen the film and I thought it was shit, just another HollyWood sell-out IMHO.

The downside to going to see Troy: my wife will probably get arrested for indecent exposure for whipping out the vibrator and masturbating everytime Pitt or Bloom is shown.

The upside to going to see Troy: If she doesn't get hauled off to jail, I would stand a fairly good chance of getting laid later that night.

All in all, I think it would be best for us both to wait til it hits DVD.

It has the worst ending EVER. The biggest fucking pussy in the movie kills the biggest badass. I was so fuckin pissed!

IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED : BRAD PIT FACIAL SHOTS, which is what i yelled in the theatre when the movie ended, got a bit of applause too....

This Movie was the Gore-filled bloodbath that we all wished we got with the third Lord of the rings movie...instead we got homoerotic hobbit rompings....
and the gals can cream their panties for 3 hours....WAS NOT Pitts best performance....I hated looking at his face when he shoulda been disemboweling someone....
The elf is a pussy to be sure....lol Multiman said it right

Paris causes Achilles downfall just as he did in the Illiad, it's a dramatic juxtoposition of character. For some reason they left this crowd angering event in tact, although it is well telegraphed in the film. They changed quite a few other things, including killing Agamemnon, Achilles' implied homosexuality, and completely writing out the role of the gods. Also the trojan war was originally about a decade long, but those are just a few points among many. If you want a real story, not a stylized popcorn commercial that only appeals to teenagers, read the Illiad.

Yes the Illiad is the best, very good stuff. Achilles Rules

It's funny to see Bana going from cheesy Aussie comedy (full frontal and the like) to the big time films.

Great comedian and a great actor.

I have seen it and it wasnt as good that i hoped...
To unrealistic, to much babbel...
But shure the fighting and that looked good.

I give it 5.8/10.0.

I have seen Bana in the movie Chopper(which is based on a true story) and that was good, a real crazy dude i must say.
