First they try to eliminate overtime and now they're trying to impose a new $1/gallon gas tax on top of the existing gas tax to pay for the rebuilding of Iraq. It seems the American government is no longer for the people. When is this government going to stop!?

They'll probably go on forever and do worse in the future. We Americans have become soft :(

How many liters are a gallon?
In Sweden 1liter gasoline cost about $1.10.

the u.s government has paid enough in fighting the war..the u.s oil companies are getting the oil cheaper (now that Saddam isnt there to oppose)..so why the hell should the american people pay more???arent the Iraqis getting the money for their oil??or is it going to some other interests??? if oil didnt play such a vital part then why dont we remove leaders of other countries that dont have oil like Somalia and the Terrorist safe haven of the world,Sudan??? i think were are getting out of hand with this foreign policy bullshit...we have so many problems domestically...unemployement,education,healthcare,low wages for public servants, and the list goes on and on....its time for the US to take care of business at home, before going abroad to depose of leaders we see unfit to rule...A leader (Ataturk) once said "You must have peace at home before you can have peace abroad".... Lets take care of our people first before worrying about the rest of the world...its not like we dont give billions in aid to other countries anyway..no need to lose soldiers lives over this...as long as there is a United States, there will be Terrorism...there is no avoiding it...lets focus on the more important issue, our people, our children....God bless us all....

couldn't agree with you more johnny, I wish all americans thought like you did.

Hahha Johnny! You had me tricked for a second there :D

My father thinks that, it was wrong by the americans and britts to invade iraq. They had no right. He says that:
"Todays Iraq after the attack, its the worst sight ever seen. Without rules there can not be a "so called" society, were people can live in peace. Even doe Saddam were a evil man, he did make the country stick to rules and not, rape destroy and plunder. Many rules were to hard, but most of them were there for a reason. Dictators have a big role, to make a whole country be stable at anyway possible. They think he should die, who are you to say such a thing?(really) Have you been there? Could you have manage to control all the people without going crazy?(I don't think so!) Thats why we have rules and all those laws in our countries to make it solid. Sure there are many crimes in those too, but there are the nations to control that. Crime often comes with poorness. What if President Geroge W Bush would control the whole 50 states?(I believe he fails before even started.)"
Now your probably sitting there and calling him crazy or something, but thats is what he thinks.

I don't really know what i've think, but its similar i guess...

The country is pretty much divided in whether or not we should have attacked Iraq. In a recent CNN poll, 53% of Americans are against our involvement in Iraq right now. They should have a nationwide vote to see if we should stay over there and continue policing the world. That 83 billion could go a long way over here in the states. Heck, take not even a 1/10 of it and it would solve many of California's problems.

I say we should worry about our own country before we start helping other countries. Especially a country that does not even want us there.

there are two sides to every story....we should have gone in or not.....but the way our society is going its no brainer....put back some money, time, interest into america before our core becomes too weak...that core being our children.

As an American I feel like we should focus more on accomplishing more within our own borders...oh the whole Mexican border bullshit thing comes to mind as an example....rather than spending billion$$ playing Superman for the rest of the world. Notice we were the first nation to take action in the Iraq incident....thats usually our standard too...first in....and then our allies...I guess out of fear of looking bad follow us in. Allies my ass but, thats a whole nother talk show isnt it?

I agree with you Still about focusing more inside our borders, it's all about money & power to the government. We went into Iraq with claims that we haven't backed-up yet, while North Korea is sittin' over there telling the world "We've got Nukes right here & we want to test em'". I don't follow the news like I would like to but as long as we stay cool with China then we good. IMO

yeah, i also agree with swm 110%

anyone seen bumfights? or the second one?

its horendous, but does show what bums live life like on the streets. if we can build million dollar prisons in iraq, why cant we build these people shelters?

Another thing, part of this 83 billion is going to go to giving iraqis medical care. we don't even give our own people medical care, why are we over there giving them it? i'm not saying that its not right we're giving them medical care. i'm just saying that it's terrible that we dont get it over here.

and yeah, i'm one of the 50 million americans without health insurance, because i'm a full time 21 year old student :(

I say let Bush and his oil Cronies pay for this war. As well as the upper 1%, they sit back in their multi-million dollar home and counting how many millions they made that day by laying-off hard working Americans. After all thats the hidden reason why they went into Iraq, well one reason. They didnt give a f*ck about the civilians or the troops or our safety. Did you know that the Clinton administration gave critical evidenence to Bush about a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in the months leading up to 9/11? And Clinton even had the bill of the Homeland Security Act ready for Bush to sign. Bush turned it down and waited for the attack and then released their own version of the act which included the Patriot Act written by John Ashcroft with is stripping people of civil liberties. Bush makes me sick, tax cuts for rich people? What kind of fucked up mind thinks that makes sense? Bush dishonors the dead of 9/11 by using that as a political spring board for their right-wing agenda.

I leave for basic training for the United States Marines Corps on January 5th if that constitutes are standing up for myself :) heh

Well, this whole Iraq war is a very complicated issue.

Actually, the first one was complicated too: but in large part it was because Kuwait was getting Oil from their "Northern Fields" which were really dug underground many miles across into Iraq. So, Iraq was pissed that Kuwait was stealing Iraqi oil - and the US wanted to ensure Kuwait could access that oil to keep the price low.

The second Iraqi war was, in large part, because Iraq had started demanding that its oil was paid for in Euros rather than dollars. This is a trend in the middle east (and in fact other countries) that international trades are starting to happen in Euros and not (as before) dollars. This means that foreign countries want more Euros and fewer Dollars. Hence, dollars are losing value rapidly. In fact, one thing that keeps the US economy propped up is that something like three quarters of all US$ are actually held overseas - well, if countries stop "stockpiling" dollars and switch to holding Euros, it will make the Dollar lose value like you could not believe. In theory, a dollar could be worth a quarter of what it is worth today. Now, this would completely devastate the US economy. So ... a few wars are a "reminder" to a number of countries that if the US economy is threatened there will be retaliations.

You know what I don't get? The U.S. is in the biggest deficit and now president bush is trying to get a billion or so dollars (i'm not sure how much but its around a billion, or in the billions) to rebuild Iraq. Why the hell don't we use there oil to pay for the war, like indemnity. They have nothing else to spend there money on, not like us. We actually have to support our infastructure which cost a ton of money, let Iraq pay for the war and pay for their own up keep and infastructure.

Good point. That was just one of the many lies that The Administration told the public. The oil will pay for the war.

But instead these right-wingers all have stocks and bonds in these multi-million dollar corporations and when the puppet George Bush asks for $87 billion dollars to pay for Iraq its like one big repair bill to companies like Haliburton. And then these rich ass old men dance when they see their stock go through the roof. He's literally stealling from the poor and their tax money and giving it to the rich. And then Bush has the nerve to give the upper 1% a huge tax cut. Bush is like Prince Knottingham or whatever from Robin Hood. And I guarantee more troops will be sent to the Middle East to fight the War on Terrorism. We will go after Syria and Iran.

Well why do those Muslim extremetist hate us anyway?

One reason is because they believe white people are trying to take over the Muslim world with Christianity. Now we have been told by the President that this is not a Holy War, which I don't believe, and we all know how religious he is. But if anyone has been watching the news lately, there has been a 4-star Army General who was at church and he was preaching. He said on film, that he was fighting in the name was Jesus and that Muslims worshipped a false idol. So I think this is a Holy War that is fought partcially in the name of God.

Second reason is because the Bush family has direct financial ties with the Suadia Arabian government because of oil ties between the two. So the Arabian government is getting super rich and the Bush family and other Republicans or right-wingers are getting super rich. This pisses off people so much that they go and formed fucked up groups like Al-Queada. Why arent we going after Al-Quada? Almost all of the 9/11 hijackers were from Suadia Arabia? Why did we bomb Afghanistan and invade Iraq? All of this is because they dont want the public to investigae the connections. And they also own media-outlets like Fox News, The New York Post, The Washington Insider, and NPR shows like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and Bill 0'Reilly. They know that if you control these you control the stories and words which means you control the public.

Sorry didnt mean to go off on a rant but this shit drives me crazy.

NeXus for President 2004!

I couldn't agree more on every point. You're not alone out there. Look into voting for Howard Dean in the next election, he also has similar thoughts on the war in Iraq and the richest 1%.

Bush will be out of there soon. If he isn't, this country is in for a world of pain.

as for the presidential election? there is so much hype for all these lunatic democrat canidates, and all this hype about them being a couple points ahead in the polls, but the thing is guys, bush hasn't even begun to campaign yet, and the 9 dwarves or 7 or whatever are already in full swing. Just something to think about. We can't say anyone is out of the loop until bush starts campaigning

umm, heres the thing. All those democrats presidential canidates are preaching that they will never go to war. What if we get bombed again? Who will stick up for us? Not a democrat, because they want to cut our defense and tax us to death, i'll bet if they ever get into office again, they would be recalled after we got hit by terrorist and no action was taken.

I REALLY hate getting into political debates. Everyone has their own opinions and you can never convince them otherwise. This is also the only forum on the internet where I havent gotten into it with someone for tearing down democrats. I plan to keep it that way.

I'm also an Independent, I really don't like either side ;)
