The government allows us to keep our numbers if we switch plans. The cost? You think it would be none, right? Wrong. It costs each cell phone user $1.10 a month for this 'service', even if you do not even want to use it. You are forced to have it.

Now, $1.10 X 150 million cell phone users(according to cbs news) X 12 months equals... 1.98 billion a year.

Where is this money going? There is no way in hell it costs that much money to run this program that might be useful to a handful of people.

Want to hear something else? Because of the new GPS chips in certain phones, we all have to pay $.40 for E911. Think it costs $720 million to run that program? Why do the people who cannot utilize this service have to pay for it?

I think we're seeing government corruption at its best here.

Didn't really expect you to be anti-egalitarian. ;)

So, Is this a new feee on this month's bill? Or will it not take effect for me until May 2004 since I am not in a top 100 MSA?

what bitches! they should at least give you the option to not want it on your phone.

I'm with Sprint and its on this months new phone bill.

Cell phones suck. I hate them. And that GPS chip is just part of the New World Order.

Riddle me this:

Why do we have to pay for cable TV if we still gotta watch commercials? I remember when cable didn't have commercials... now it's just like any other channel. Advertising money is big money and once your cable box is installed, that's it. Why do we have to pay for that shit when cable companies are already making money hand over fist from just advertising alone? It really takes that much money to maintain all the hardware?

I think it's bullshit.

But yeah, back to the point.... fuck cell phones. If I had a car, then maybe I'd get one... but other than that, I hate those damned things.

Well, I use one as my main phone. I didn't have a landline phone for a long time, but just got a landline back a couple months ago. For me a cell phone just makes sense. For example, my cell and home phone bills are about the same, but my home phone doesnt include long distance and the local wants to charge extra for Calller ID,etc. With my cell phone, I have unlimmited nights/weekends with unlimited member to member calls and unlimitted long distance.

And also unlimited brain cancer.

Cell phones with that GPS shit are the beginnings of the Mark of the Beast.

I second that one.

You can still get phones without the GPS chips, right? I don't want anyone knowing where I'm at, at any given time.

Hay, I just got my bill for next month. Guess what? I have no new charges. Its the same as it has always been. I went over every charge and the only fees are the state and federal taxes and the 911 Fee.

I think its been shown that extreme excessive use of the old phones, can cause brain damage or tumors or something. But I'm pretty sure they fixed it in the new ones. Try getting those ear piece headphones. No risk there.

I stopped at the Verizon store yesterday and asked about this, as I'm likely to be switching to Verizon. They said there are no fees or taxes for this privilege.

They make it look like it's being charged by the federal government. If you have a sprint phone, you know what I'm talking about.

Dirty, dirty company.

Yeah, a lot of long distance companies(and local probably) do the same thing.
