Saddam Captured!

Yeah, they got that slimey old bastard.

Do you have a link to the news article?

Wonder if they really caught the man himself... or yet another one of his body doubles...? Well, the DNA tests seem to be indicating that he is the real thing, so I dunno if that leaves any room for doubt...

If they indeed caught the right guy, then I'm glad. I don't support the war, or president Bush by any means, but one less dictator in the world is always a positive thing! I hope they give him the harshest possible sentence under Iraq law (if that's where he'll be trialed), which is probably something like:

''First, we brake every bone in his body. Then, we hang him upside down from a meathook and stuff his mouth full of dusty rags, and wait for him to either suffocate or bleed to death. After that, we cut his infidel corpse up into small pieces, fry those pieces in the incinerator and spread his ashes into the red sea!!''

Something along those lines anyway... as they did with this serial child killer about a year ago. Nothing beats the age old 'eye-for-an-eye' principle... :fight:

No its definatley Saddam, they did some DNA tests just to confirm. Hopefully he will be sentenced to death by the Iraqi National Counsel.

Unfortunatley the war is no where near over. In fact, the president himself even said that the car bombs and etc. will probably increase and more troops will die. Actually one died this morning while he was trying to diffuse a bomb when it blew up.

But thank god we found him. But now for the real culprit, lets find and execute Osama!

here is the article, I guess I have to apologize in advance that it is from foxnews.

Note to self: don't get on Shafty's bad side. :s

As for the capture of Saddam...it was only a matter of time before he'd run out of places to hide. I'm glad that we caught him, but I really don't see him aiding us in the capture of Bin Laden...maybe I'm too pessimistic, but I just can't see it happening.

If he doesn't agree to help us, then I think he should be a punisHydromaxent along the lines of the one that Shafty suggested.

Note to self: don't get on Shafty's bad side.

LMAO

No but seriously, the Iraqis actually dish out punisHydromaxents of this kind, and when we're talking about people like Saddam and that serial child killer I mentioned, maybe such sentences are indeed just and deserved, albeit a bit exaggerated! ;)

No need to worry. I'm pretty certain he will get the death penalty. If not by the Iraqi's or the Iranians then by the US.
The only scenario I could see him living, is if he somehow gave us some insanely good intel, but thats not likely. We'll get some good info out of him, but probably not the kind of thing that would win the war.

Dont forget that Saddam used to be America's ally. I even saw a pic of Donald Rumsfeld shaking hand with Hussein in 1983.

We funded and armed him and helped him get all power. But then he went a little power-crazy and he invaded Kuwait which threatened our real "allies", the Suadi Arabians. So its was time to punish the dog for biting the hand that feeds him.

We even encouraged American Corporations to do business with him. We even gave him some satellite images so he could locate some Iranian troops. And when he got our intel, he of course gassed the Iranian troops. Because at the time the Iranians were the "enemy".

He then later gassed the Kurds, and Congress proposed economic sanctions w/ Iraq to stop it, but it was turned down by the Reagen White House.

And if he does have WMD, its because we gave him the financial and business hook-up.

As true as all of the that is NeXus, you can't really levy all of the blame on the government. Granted they could have removed Saddam at the first hint of questionable actions on his part, but we as Americans are always willing to give people a second chance (a sign of weakness if you ask me).

At the time that we aided and funded Saddam he was a very essential ally for America. However, as is often the case (i.e. Fidel Castro), the people we think are willing and deserving of power turn out to be very much undeserving.

There's no way that anyone could have predicted Saddam would turn out to be a psychopathic nut case, short of calling up Miss Cleo. It's all too easy to point fingers and lay the blame on the government now in retrospect of the events that have occurred, but at the time that Saddam gained his power he was an essential ally.

I think he'll escape and hide in America at my local 7-11 and never be found again. If he does, I will eye up that old dude who sells me the lottery tickets.

That could be a double chance of hitting the lottery. Getting the right numbers and then ratting him out for another 25 million plus.

Saddam is like the old drinking buddy who fucks your chances with some young drunk hottie. Bastard! You treat him cool and he gets beer miscles and ruins the evening for everyone.

France, Germany and Russia all dealt extensively with Iraq, opposed any meaningful restraints on Saddam's internal rule, yet are considered to be liberal saints -- their dealings with Saddam not criticized, but praised.

On the other hand, liberals hate the US for trading with Saddam and hate the US for ending his reign of terror.

I think some people just hate the US no matter what.

Well, ya know what I hate? I hate it when people like you stereotype people and paint us all with the brush. Who the hell are you to question my patriotism? Im more patriotic than you because Im trying to take a stand against these people who are taking advantage of my country.

Who said Germany and France are liberal saints? All you do is make a general statement that you think is true, and agrue against it.

The US loved Saddam. We funded and armed him. Until he invaded the dictatorship of Kuwait and, in doing so, did the worst thing imaginable -- he threatened an even BETTER friend of ours: the dictatorship of Saudi Arabia, and its vast oil reserves. The Bushes and the Saudi royal family were and are close business partners.

Bush is such a lucky guy. As soon as the Halliburton scandal started to be uncovered, we find Saddam. Hey kinda like Enron. And wouldnt he be so lucky, that just a couple of months before the presidential election, we suddenly find Osama Bin Laden! Well that would ensure a victory!

Oh, I was only kidding about that scandal stuff. But if it does happen, I want you all to say, Nexus called it!

Im thrilled that Saddam is gone, but thats not why we went into Iraq. I think that we need to concentrate on Al-Queda and Osama, instead of putting half of our entire Army into Iraq. We lost the war in Afghanistan. The Taliban are alive and at large. The person responsible for 9/11 is still free.

Nexus, as you pointed out, we allied ourselves with Iraq during the 80's because Iran was (and still is) the enemy. At the time, Iraq, while not great, was a better proposition than Iran. We needed a hedge in the MidEast to prevent Iran from becoming a larger political force in the area, lest muslims become even more hell-bent on the West's destruction than they already are. There was no "love affair" with Iraq. They were simply a sufficient proxy instead of us having to send our own people over to fight and die.

Amen to that.

I love everything about it. I love the freedom of speech to tell you that your wrong. And if the Right had its way, we'd be like Iraq, you would get severely punished if you spoke or rallied against the President.

wants 9,
Since I dont have LexisNexis, I cant dig through the archives and post the links. So I'll just tell you the articles and if you still dont believe me, you can dig up the articles yourself.

"Bin Laden releatives have ties to Texas," Austin American-Statesman, November 9, 2001 by Mike Ward.

"Bin Laden family, with deep wester ties, strives to re-establish a name," The New York Times, October 28, 2001 by Michael Moss.

"Bin Laden brother ran business, was well-liked in Central Texas," San Antonio Express-News, August 22, 1998.

In a couple a days, I'm gonna post a new thread about the new findings of the 9/11 investigation commission. In a nutshell, they found out that the administration and FBI and CIA could have prevented the attack with the information they had.

How did the US get Saddam's actual DNA to begin with? Did they have a spy come in and steal a pair of his underwear or something?

I'm sure they'll capture Osama Bin Laden right before election time too.

So there's my cynical 2 cents.
