Whey Protein
  1. Offers a high level of branched-chain amino acids. (BCAA)
  2. Enhances the production of glutathione, one of the body's natural antioxidants.
  3. Approximately 95% lactose-free, although isolate whey protein may be 97% lactose-free.
  4. Dissolves easily in water.
  5. Derived from milk.
Soy Protein
  1. The only complete protein that is from a plant.
  2. It contains all of the essential amino acids.
  3. Cholesterol and lactose-free.
  4. Has a higher glutamine content than whey.
  5. Supplies BCAA and arginine.

Excellent post Ulcasterdropout!

xxxyamzxxx, I would definitely use Whey Protein if you take it after a workout. And I would take it before the workout too, just before you start. It enhances protein synthesis. Some fast carbohydrates are good too, I don't remember the names since I don't use them but something like dextro or something like that.

I just use a crappy gainer, they usually contain alot of carbs but it's alright :)

Good point, hangh! The importance of pre-workout protein intake is often overlooked. It will enhance protein synthesis and cause a much greater overall anabolic response from the workout if you have plenty of amino acids in your blood WHILE you're lifting. Post-workout intake is crucial, too. And I think the word you were looking for was maltodextrin? Funny thing, though, I never managed to find that anywhere when I lived in the States, so I ended up drinking Gatorade instead (which is pretty much the same except that it has a little more fructose + some minerals and salts).

Soy Protein contains isoflavones which produce estrogen-like effects in the human body.

Actually, for men I would avoid soy protein. If you have no diary allergies, there is just no reason not to go with whey. It is cheaper and has the best amino profile.

On the carbs:

I used to be a dextrose fan. Dextrose (which is glucose) is from corn sugar and has a Glycemic Index of 100.

From what I have been researching lately, I slower digesting carb like ground up oats would be better pre/post workout and cause less fat gain, while filling glycogen stores better. I just switched over to ground oats.

What I do is put 1/2 cup of oats in the blender and grind them up. Mix with a scoop or two of whey and drink up. It's not that bad. It is also a good substitute for protein bars.

Exactly, and this negates all of its positives, IMO.

For men, whey and egg are the only whey to go. :D

DpsNutrition.com absolutely rocks as far as prices go. I feel bad for not stopping guys that walk into GNC and spend (overspend) their hard earned cash for stuff they can get for half the price elsewhere.

Agreed. DpsNutrition's tribulus cost me 5 dollars per bottle, whereas GNC's tribulus costs around 15-20 $, if I remember correctly. Besides, the Dps stuff was much higher quality, being 45% furastanol steroidal saponis versus GNC's shitty 20%.

Hey when I was on a weight gainer from GNC's Pro Performance or whatnot it really beefed me up. I am slimmer now at 168, but I was about 175 when I was on creatine and protein and when I was on that wight gainer alone I started off at a buck forty. I gained close to 15 pounds on that gainer alone in about 3 months. I can't be on creatine though. That shit doesn't agree with me. I tried it alone and fucked up my confidence fo sho. (acne) I am only 5'10 by the way so I am not That skinny. I have 16 inch biceps and a flat stomach so i consider myself nicely built. Actually man, the chocolate shake weight gainer Gold series from GNC was Niiiice. It actually was too chocolatey at times. Almost like a brownie if you didn't add enough milk. Shit I'm gonna get on that stuff again just to have something sweet before I go to sleep at night. :p
