I hope I haven't pissed anyone off - some of the replies make me think I have, but I wasn't putting down the device or it's production in anyway. I was merely wondering why it costs 50 dollars. Now I know thanks to the explanation.

It's natural for one to compare the device to what we're used to paying for mass-produced products, which are a totally different ballgame. Higher cost is the nature of the beast in such a tight niche market as our community. Hopefully, people get some great results from this device.

When I see what all can be involved with woodworking, it amazes me that many wood products are priced as low as they are. Obviously, a skilled worker can produce much better stuff at a faster rate, but there is still a considerable amount of work.

Just also wanted to mention a big thumbs-up to the guys for publishing the instructions for the construction of this device. Any Power Assist I get will be purchased, but I respect the guys for providing the information for those of you that are looking to save some cash or long for a challenge.

Its no wonder why I dont frequent over there. DAM Man! What a bunch of wining bitches!! Pissy Pissy Pissy. Ah frig 'em. I dont have enough time to keep up with MOS forums, let alone a place that you have to be in the "in crowd" or a place that anyone that posts with a dumb or old question he gets FLAMED!!!

I hate that even if the question has been asked a 1000 times the person asking it shouldnt get flamed!!! At the very least just point him in the right direction. ARRGGHH that pisses me off!

Just for that I'm changing my signature

I tend to agree. $50 is a lot, but you're paying for more than just the parts - your paying for a person's time to make it. The same with the Bib hanger, which I've purchased. Would anyone suggest that the parts of a Bib hanger are anywhere near $100???
Am I going to buy the stretcher thing?
No.
Am I going to make one?
Probably not.
But I don't have a problem with it either....only if DLD had made wild, unsubstantiated claims in promoting it (which he has not).
So what's the big damn deal anyway?

That is what I posted at Thunder's. But I would like to clarify one thing...when I said "I tend to agree. $50 is a lot...." I meant that $50 is a lot for some people to pay. Which, you can see, as I went on I clarified that the "value" of a product is more than simply the material sum of it's parts - just as with the Bib hanger.
Personally, I'm not interested in it - but I have no negative feelings about it or about DLD promoting it. It may well be beneficial for some guys - so be it.
I just didn't understand all the ganging-up about it.

a place that you have to be in the "in crowd"

Forums can sometimes take on similarities from our past. The "in crowd" can take many forms. Sometimes the "in crowd" does not realize what they are doing because they become so blind by the group mentality.

An example of this is how Hitler manipulated the German people. He would play on different interests to appeal to different groups, and because of his charisma he won support throughout the world. But most of the support came because Hitler gave these people hope and someone to blame.

Forums can sometimes take on these type of persona's. I have seen some forums where the Admins take on the role of Hitler and the MODS take on the roles of the SS.

There will never be an "in crowd" here. Be who you are, say what you like and grow a bigger dick.
