I moved a few weeks ago. I previously had dial-up internet service. Here I have DSL. The popups are horrible. Freezes my machine every few min utes. The DSL tech guys told me to download google toolbar and that would take care of it. BULSHIT! For every one it blocks two slip past it. This crap is eating up my memory and keeping me froze up. Whats the best blocker you guys use? If I don;t get this fixed ,I'm going back to dialup next month. Thanks in advance.

Try doing a windows update. That usually helps it. It sounds as if there is a back door open. This will help. If not Ive heard spybot? I think.

Get Popup inspector, spybot search and destroy, and pestpatrol, also do a search on how to turn off windows messenger service PM me and ill explain more

pm me, i'll send you some stuff to fix it. or links if you don't trust me ;)

I use a free program called PopUp Stopper. You can get it from Cnet at http://www.download.com/2001-20_4-0.html?tag=cnetfd.sb in their downloads section. Works pretty well, but is not as good as some of the pay programs. As well, I like Ad-Aware to get rid of spyware. Seems to do the job and is also free (Cnet has it).

Ok this sucker is royally screwed up again. I have a nasty hijacker. I have adaware,NoAdaware, spybot search and destroy, Spy sweeper, Bazooka Scanner and a couple of others installed. When I run the scans they show wwwcoolwebsearch and some of its varients. I downloaded cwshredder to get rid of coolwebsearch. When I run the shredder it says my system is 100% clean. Thats shit. The scans show IST toolbar as a hijacker.

I am getting about 100 new items added to my favorites list a day. I get about 10 new icons on my desktop every day.My homepage is constsntly changing to "about blank". None of the popup blockers are currently working, as the popups are worse than ever. Any suggestions to stop this madness.

A friend of mine had that as well. Took him a long ass time to fix it. If I remember correctly I believe it was Norton anti virus that fixed it. I will see him Monday and ask him.

Good luck.

I have the about:blank thing too. Check pchell.com for a write-up on it. It will take a long time to fix, I have been putting it off.

Alot of the time it's a matter of simply uninstalling the adware. Go through your uninstall programs list in the control panel and get rid of all the shit that shouldn't be there.

dude i got that SAME EXACT SHIT!!!! IST you can take off from the add/remove program thing inside your computers control panel thing. But for me I bought the SpyWareBeGone (.com) and it took ALLLLL the shit I had on my computer off reeally good. The key code thing for the full version (that I paid for) is "spykiller1975" - that program really worked wonders for me. I still have to run it about once a week though cuz new stuff comes onto my comp but it only takes a minute or so

oh AND, when I first start up my computer I do the control alt delete and close all the programs running that are wierd.... and when u goto a website that is putting adware program stuff into ur comp if u do cntrl alt delete u will see that (somethin).dat will be in there with a wierd name and if u close that real quick stuff wont load onto ur comp. i can usually tell becuase my internet is really fast and at any moment if it freezes up for a sec i know somethin wierd is happenin then i do that and see some new programs with (somethin)."dat" are running and close them. This is with my Windows XP though so if u still have 98 im not sure if that will work. Hopefully this info will help this is how I go about dealing with popups.

btw like 2 months ago before i had spywarebegone i had MAD popups and my comp was freezin alot and its pretty new too but now its all fixed and im happy

It might help to run another operating system like Mac or Linux on the computer you use for web browsing, if you do a large amount of it. My friend has an iMac with DSL and had some problems using Internet Explorer but cruises through the web when he uses Apple's Safari as his browser.

Yeah I tried that and removed a few programs . When i run the spyware scans they still show up even tho they are gone from the remove list. I even went into the registry and removed some of them and they still show up in the scans.

download spywarebegone from that name spywarebegone.com - the password to the full version is spykiller 1975. it works real good

Bob do you still have any traces of CWS on your system after using spywarebegone? My homepage is still getting hijacked by CWS and the popups are almost as bad as before. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Anyways thanks for the link and the help. I downloaded CW Shredder to totally rid my pc of CWS. WHen I run the check it says my system is clean. I can then run your program or spysweeper or spybot and they all show cws. ANy more suggestions?

also something that may help depending on the Operating sstem you are running try clicking on start>run> and in the box type in msconfig and hit enter. got to the startup tab and uncheck anything that is oviously spyware that starts up on bootup then apply and restart pc to see if that helps. adaware and spybot search and destroy do an ok job of ridding spyware. also you can goto download.com and check for the latest freeware spyware removers. also I have a program that gets rid of the highjacking of IE. Also simply switching browsers to something like the new Opera or mozilla firefox or just mozilla has a nice popup blocker and decent spyware tools. and because mozilla is based on java which windows XP and newer outta the box don't support. most stuff is written for Microsoft products because of it's ovious propularity.

Thid is probably some virus or spyware. I believe this was a common problem back in the day, when we used Flash Player instead of HTML 5.

Such a time travel back in time.
