Over the last few months I have seen the emergance of these nastry little ****'s around the hip/lower stomach area. I can't really imagine why , I have'nt been over-eating and stay fit and healty , I rarely east fast food , and eat a lot of fish , good meat and veg. My one waskness is being prone to binge drinking , but thats fairly rare as it is.

Due to the hours I work I have been eating late at night however , around 1-2am before I got to bed anything up to a few hours later.

I know a few of you have backrounds in nutrion/fitness/personal training etc. So I was just wondering if you had any advice on the types of excercise that can be done or the types of foods that should be eaten avoided ?

Cheers

Could even try a ring of power =P

Read a testimony on the running thread about someone losing their love handles! When I read that I tried to find mine but found they had tightened...or that could just be the weird eating habits I currently have until summer. Either way, might be worth a shot.

mine went away just from eating like crap and taking supplements and using ROP. Though I am sure it would be better if i ate better and worked out. That is my next thing to do.

I don't think you can spot reduce your love handles. Eating before bed is a killer. Drinking is also a nono for body fat.

You cant spot reduce but I notice it is the first area to come or go. Also, it is true beer drinking causes abdominal fat gain, PLUS muscle waste, especially in legs. Hence guys with beer guts and skinny legs.

I am currently doing all I can to lose the weight around my stomach as well to get flat abs before I go on vacation. I've made significant gains, and I'll try to tell you as much as I can without overdoing it.

First, realize that it takes a 3,500 calorie deficit to lose 1 pound! So, lets just make up some numbers and said you had an intake of 7,000 calories. If you burned 10,500 calories, you'd lose 1 pound. So once women hear this, what do they think? Well, I'm just not going to eat then. For guys, thats not really an option ;) And its a stupid one anyways. You should eat 5-6 small meals per day. A rule of thumb (but not completely accurate, better than nothing though) is take your weight, multiply it by 15, and subtract 500. Try to keep your calories around or slightly under this number. The number may seem a bit high to you if you think about what you eat, so this might mean that you're not spreading out your meals properly. Do some cardio, or some weightlifting. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns even when you're not really doing anything. The best time to do cardio is in the morning, as it speeds up your metabolism for pretty much the rest of the day. But, before you do, remember that your body doesn't have anything to draw energy from, so while it will use stored fat to fuel your cardio workout, it may dip into your muscle as well, which you don't want. To stop this, I usually have a moderate amount of protein, but little to nothing else about 30-45 mins before I do my cardio workout. Usually I have some cottage cheese, or protein powder mixed in water, but you could maybe have a glass of milk as well or something similar, but mostly protein.

Do what you can to have a 500 calorie deficit everyday, and you'll lose 1 pound in a week. And DON'T undereat. It might sound dumb, but if your body thinks its going to starve, its not going to let go of anything. It has to be reasonably certain that it will be getting food in a short while before it decides to let go of any fat. 1 pound of fat doesn't sound like much, but its more than you might think.

And DON'T do the Atkins diet. DON'T do any crash diets. Just look to lose your weight gradually and it will come off soon enough without bad reprocussions.

And one more thing I almost forgot, each light beer, most mixed drinks, and a glass of wine have about the same amount of calories...around 100-120 or so. 5 beers and you've already wrecked your 500 calorie deficit. This doesn't mean you can't ever drink, but just be careful not to have too much. 10 beers and you've already hit over 1,000 calories.

Still have some love handles but they are slowly fading. My diet is pretty much open with the exception of simple sugars. I do 3-4 miles of intense aerobics everyday and drink a fuck load of water. My weight is slow to go but I feel like a million bucks!

I feel about... $4.78 myself... but I'm going to bet to that million soon. Just got done and butchered in exams, but I don't have to think about it now, so I got the summer to get me going.

Right now, I'm working in construction. I don't have time to really count calories. I can barely eat in the morning, 'cause I feel like I'll throw it all up. I manage a protein drink (Whey Protein Isolate mixed with skim milk) and a few slices of whole wheat or multigrain bread with something topped on 'em. Try to keep a spread light on the bread...

Work my ass off 'til lunch, then dinner. Today was Tomato Soup with some crackers, and a turkey sandwich with whole wheat and mustard. To drink, water... two glasses. Tryin' to drink water a lot, but don't think about it when I get too busy. Nighttime, I had the same as lunch. I try to keep it light and healthy.

Try to avoid breads, and only have whole wheat or multigrain when I do have bread. Try to keep to veggies n' lean cuts of meat. I allow myself one treat. Today was a can of pop.

My workout so far is:
-15 situps, 5 forward and 5 to either side. I always try to add an extra situp to all 3 directions.
- Pushups. Up to 10, but my arms feel like jelly from shovelling topsoil today.
- Leg crunches. 8 of 'em. a set is forward, right, forward, left. Did 2 sets...
- Bicycle kicks. Ow, the lower stomach. 35...
- Hand weights. 20 times per arm, then 10 on both arms from my sides. Would be more, but I'm achin' a lot now.

Between construction work, and material similar to or better then this, I should change around and be rather fit.

Key thought to me is I'm not losing weight, I'm changing shape. Therefore, the scale lies to me... the bastard.

All tell more as time goes on.

I don't got love handles, I got safety bars that keep drivers from floatin' off a lunar excursion module... so don't feel so bad.
