FERC apparently only pretending to analyze Enron tapes
Seattle Times |
"The U.S. Department of Justice has agreed to hand over 161 tapes of Enron day traders to federal energy regulators, but a federal protective order prevents their release or use in any utility case without Justice's approval... FERC will spend about $800,000 to transcribe the tapes, providing copies to the FBI for its investigations against Enron employees. How many tapes will be transcribed for that amount of money is unknown, however. Estimates indicate $12.6 million would be needed to transcribe all 161 tapes, containing 52,000 hours of conversations." [At an exorbitant rate of $242 per transcribed hour, we should expect transcripts for only 10 of the 161 tapes -- roughly 6% of the total.]
