I made this in about 15 minutes or so the other day. Ideally, you want to construct the entire thing out of the type of nylon braided hose that the top piece is made from, but the Lowe's nearest to me was totally out of anything but the 1.25" diameter stuff (which I used for the top piece). Most guys who make these will use 1.25" diameter hose for the top piece and somewhere between 1.5" and 1.75" diameter hose for the bottom piece. I find 1.5" diameter hose works best for me as a bottom piece. Note, the hose clamp pictured here opens to a maximum size of 2" (two inches), I have found this size clamp to be best.

The white hose I had to use in place of the braided nylon hose is called "flex hose". Otherwise, the braided nylon stuff is called exactly that "braided nylon hose". LOL. I would not suggest you use any hose that is very soft. The hoses suggested by myself and BIB in the 'how to' threads I have here are suggested on purpose. You need something that is semi rigid, but at the same time, semi flexible. Pipe insulation is not a good idea either.

This type of hanger is all we had to hang with a few years ago, and this Modified Hanger can be used to hang as heavily as any of you might ever need to hang with. I have two pics:

As far as using this type of hanger goes, it is very simple. Wrap with a few layers of material (refer to my wrapping threads and or the other sticky threads where wrapping is mentioned), put the top piece on about 1/4" behind the front edge of the wrap, then put the bottom piece and the hose clamp on. The hose clamp should sit about 1/4" to 1/2" behind the front edge of the top piece where the "V" or "U" is cut out. Refer to the "How To" threads for more details and use the diagrams as guides. As you can see by this example piece (which works!!), you do NOT have to be a skilled craftsman to make one of these. Nor do the cuts have to be exact.

First a few pics putting it on. I put on the top piece, then the bottom, then the rest is pretty idiot proof. Read the directions posted elsewhere.

LOL, yea it's exactly 15lbs. That was a "for demonstration purposes" picture.

yeah, great pics! Thanks for that! BTW, which one do you use, this one or the 'real' BIB? I'm not saying that yours isn't real, but you get my point...

I use the production BIB Starter model. ALthough I'm confident that if something ever happened to that hanger...it broke for some unseen reason, I could go right to the home made hangers and carry on.

Inspired by SWM I went ahead and made my own hanger with a few modifications. Id post some pics but there is no 'IMG' button on this reply??. Strange or did I miss something?

Yea, you missed something. Dont use the quick reply. Do the regular reply. You will see a "manage attachements" box, where you upload pics. Make em no bigger than about 800x600, mine are usually 600x450 or so for quick opening.

Thanks SWM! While reading your post on making a Home made BIB hanger, I got an idea for helping to do the "behind the butt stretches" that DLD had suggested I do.(since I'm so small flaccid) I'm going to build your version of a BIB and then with the use of a old nylon strap dog leash I have, use it to do the stretches. Sort of a modified "foot long stretch". LMAO
Then maybe, if all works out I'll do a little "hanging". This I'll have to do in secret as the wife said that she doesn't want me to hang. :s

Yep, Im gonna have to make one of these now. Thanks SWM, this answered all my questions on how to make one. :)

No problem man. That's my goal whenever I post a demonstration thread.

Anyone know in the UK wear to buy the tubing. Will homebase suffice? Will I have to buy a minimum amount of tubing like meter or something?

Cheers

Man, I wish I lived alone. I hate not having moved out yet. I would definitely want me one of these if it was possible, though. About how much did the whole thing run you, SWM?

i just went out to lowes and bought a setup similar to SWM's but i accidentally bought a 1.5" nylon braided hose along with a 1.5" flex hose. Did i totally screw up and do i have to buy a smaller nylon hose to fit inside the flex or can i just use both with the same width?

I am not able to see the pics posted above by stillwantmore. I've tried several different computers.
