"Emule and other p2p networks"

:s I downloaded emule and I constantly get a low id. I read the faq about it and it is like it is wriiten in Ancient Mandarian or some shit.

My question is about the serves that you hook to. I always hit the servers with the most files hoping that I can catch some of my wanted list of items. I get disconnected from a server yet it seems I am still able to get uploaded from and most of the time download. How is that possible? Should I just keep jumping servers to the next one until I get a bite of something to download? What are the deep blue colors mean exactly? I think they mean the file is available but it hardly takes a bite onto my downloads.

Thanks in advance for listening to my computer illiterate rant.

Make sure you have the correct ports (and traffic type) opened on your firewall. See help on the website for the required settings.

The servers only purpose is to act as a meeting place for individual nodes (users). Once you communicate with another person (peer), you can share data with them as much as you want outside of the server. You are not just connected to the peer that you are in the process of transferring data with. You are also still connected to everyone that was in the wait que. So even if the server drops, you're still connected.

>>Should I just keep jumping servers to the next one until I get a bite of something to download?<<

No, fix your lowid problem first, then find a good server (I like Razorback) and stay there. The longer you can stay on one server, the better chance you'll have to get more people in your que, which in turn means quicker (to get started) and faster (once they start) downloads.

>>What are the deep blue colors mean exactly?<<

One reason eMule is so great and works so well is that it downloads chunks of data for one file from multiple users. In most cases, one file you download is a compiled package of data from a bunch of other users. The regular blue color represents the portions (chunks) of the files that have not downloaded yet. The black (what I think you meant as dark blue) represent the portions of the file that have been acquired. And the red are corrupted or unavailable chunks.

No problem, but as always, I do not condone illegal sharing of copyrighted material. :)

what do you guys use? and where did you get them? yea I had kazaa and it was great, but unless you pay for it, it puts spyware in your computer which really slows it down. I'm using Ares (galaxy) right now (search for off www.download.com) I just want to see what you guys use, please include a link or where you can get it

XSC which is available here

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tim.leonard1/xs/downloads/XS_pr50.zip

also need

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tim.leonard1/XSC_pr52.zip

its a simple yet effective SMALL but large volume in data P2P.
Has no RIAA - like org's in their, just normal people sharing shit.

I also use K-Lite, the newest version is here

http://www.smartdownloads.net/download-75.html

it has NO SPYWARE or shit like that in it.
The original kazaa has sued it, cos it was a rip of product of kazaa, but BETTER.
Its gone underground now [k-lite] so the homepages it has aint around or have changed to other stuff.

Its good though.

I also hear Edonkey2000 is good, nevertried it though.

if you get a lowID you connection settings are wrong.
Check the attached file to see what I mean.
I've got the Dutch version, but you'll see what I mean.
I also recommend to download the LSD mod.
You can tweak emule to the max
