I've never worn cologne before, but would like to start. How do you go about finding a scent without emptying your bank account trying them?

Most department stores have sample bottles out so you can spray it on yourself to see if you like it. But make sure you wait about 15 minutes after spraying it on so you can smell what it will really smell like on your skin and not what it smells like fresh out of the bottle.

My absolute favorite is called Chrome by Azzaro. It drives my gal absolutely CRAZY when I wear it!! Another good one is Higher by Dior. Good stuff...but I'm not sure if you can still find it. Haven't been cologne shopping in quite a while. I got a lot of free cologne from her sister because she worked at the fragrance counter in one of the department stores back home, so I'm all set for a while.

Yeah, check out the samples. I like Swiss Army and Lacoste. Classic Polo is always good too!

Go get some Issey Miyake for men, man that shit will make girls stop in there tracks too smell it its soo good. You can get a good sized bottle for around 50 bucks. It'll last for ever damn near, and the ladies love it, they freakin love it!

Try out some Kenzo for men (several kinds... the blue one is best)! It smells too good to be true, and it's inexpensive, too.
That's the only cologne I've ever worn, simply because there are no scents in that price range that even come close!
It beats the hell outta Boss etc (the expensive brands). :bounce:

Calvin Klein Eternity has always worked for me. DKNY is another good one. Polo Sport is great during the winter, DO NOT wear this one during the summer, its too heavy.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'll probably get to the department store next week, and I'll check the samples they have when I'm there, paying special attention to the one's you guys listed.

Hey man try out Davidoff Cool water---U will not regret it--Promise!

You will have women all over u-----Words from a true PIMP!!!

i case you don't want to smell like some 13 year-old in middle school, i'd tell you to pick up Bucheron Jaipur, Yohji Yamamoto, or Gucci Homme. All three smell awesome, and have none of that drug-store-bought frutiness.

OH my god! How old are you guys 40-60 years old. Coolwater? that was cool when i was like 7( i am around 25 now). Let me give you guys a little adivice, if there is anything i know it is style. 3 biggies: 1. Dolce & Gabbana When you want to look and smell classy(my all time fav). 2. Brand new one: John Varvatos a fall to winter cologne 3. Winter cologne: Versace the Dreamer -when you want to be a bad boy. Spring to Summer cologne: the new one by Givency (not sure on the spelling). THIS IS NOT THE OLD ONE THat is dark yellow or blue. It has a maroon top. There is no cologne that you can wear all year except MAYBE Dolce &Gabbana, but even that can smell to thick during the hot summer. Well, hope that helps.

I agree with LukeSkywalker. Versace the Dreamer and Dolce & Gabbana are great but I also like Armani Acqua di Gio, Christian Dior Higher Energy and Christian Dior Fahrenheit.

the two i wear is issey miyake...and allure for men...i get a lot of compliments from both

I wear Dolce and Gabanna and sometimes Gucci Nobile, but thats kinda strong

I think you mean Givenchy's Pi (pie) - yea that smells really good... kinda like candy lol i dunno

Well, I was at the mall today, and decided to go into the purfume store(colgones too). I tried: Versace the Dreamer, Chrome by Azzaro, Issey Miyake, Givenchys "Pi", Coolwater, like 10 other random ones that the guy said were good.

I thought Chrome was by far the best and it really smelt great, so I bought a bottle for myself. $50. Smells really good.

no it is not PI--it is the NEW one (tall bottle with a maroon cap on it). Besides, you have to smell John Varvatos--hard to find unless you have very upscale stores like Saks around.

stay away from aqua di gio because EVERY college kid on earth has it and it is becomming the new Eternity cologne.

It's interesting to see how many different opinions we have here. There doesn't seem to be a clear winner.
