CNN's view of average penis size and making it bigger!
"By Steven N. Gange, M.D.

(WebMD) -- We've all seen the ads: A vacuum cylinder that helps "expand your penis to maximum potential." A pill, derived from natural sex hormone research, "designed to actually enlarge the penis and induce and maintain multiple, long-term erections." Come-ons like these rarely offer scientific proof, yet many men spend money on such products hoping for penile enlargement. They are falling prey to two misconceptions: 1) They have a smaller than average penis; 2) non-surgical penile enlargement is safe and effective.

Misconception #1: The small penis

Men in general have a distorted view of what's normal for penile size. The fact is, "average" was not defined until recently. A study published in the September 1996 Journal of Urology concluded that average flaccid penile length was 8.8 cm (3 1/2 inches), and average erect length was 12.8 cm (5 inches). Also, according to many women's magazine surveys, "size doesn't matter." But many men remain fixated on the ideal of the 8- to 10-inch penis.

Some men don't even realize what they have. For example, obese men develop a suprapubic fat pad that conceals the penis, making it look shorter. Pressing firmly on this fatty tissue reveals the true penile length. I often explain this to patients, but a man who is convinced his penis is too small is hard to convince otherwise.

Occasionally a perception of inadequate penile length is a manifestation of underlying feelings of inadequacy in general. In these instances, psychological counseling may prove helpful.

Misconception #2: You can increase penile size without surgery

There are no proven non-surgical methods of penile enlargement. Vacuum devices simply cause engorgement by drawing blood into the penis. (While these devices are very useful tools in the management of erectile dysfunction (ED), they do not progressively enlarge the penis.) No natural pill has any ability whatsoever to enhance penile size. Even Viagra does nothing to permanently affect penile size. Topical testosterone cream used in childhood can increase penile size by accelerating the effects of puberty, but there is no proof that testosterone cream applied to the adult penis enhances penile size.

When surgery is warranted

Certain men suffering from urologic conditions may need plastic surgery on the penis: those with traumatic defects; those whose penises have retracted following a spinal cord injury; those born with a condition called epispadius (a severe penile deformity with associated shortening); and some men with Peyronie's Disease (scarring of the penile shaft resulting in severe angulation and occasionally shortening). For these men, surgical procedures are available to give the penis additional length and a more normal appearance. However, these procedures, even in the best of hands, often result in wound infection or other healing complications. Sexual function may be impaired, and an artificial penile prosthesis may need to be inserted at the time of such surgery.

Enlargement surgery: Still experimental and risky

Within the past 10 years, some surgeons have attempted purely cosmetic penile enlargement surgery on healthy men to enhance both length and girth of the penis. This surgery usually involves cutting the band of tissue that holds the penis up against the pubic bone (the suspensory ligament), and then injecting fat, harvested by liposuction, beneath the penile skin to add bulk. The surgery is still experimental: Two recent studies (one in 1994, the other in 1996) published in the Journal of Urology reported significant complications resulting from this surgery -- serious wound infections and penile deformity, such as lumpiness and asymmetry. In fact, the surgery is still so controversial and yields such poor results that it is considered generally unacceptable by both the plastic surgery and urological communities.

In addition, such procedures are expensive, costing up to $10,000 in some instances. Penile enlargement is not a simple undertaking and is usually not medically necessary. If you choose to pursue surgical enlargement, be sure to check the credentials of your surgeon (e.g., board certification) and carefully weigh the risks and potential benefits. "

Yup, most of the media is.

I love how the media spreads only what they believe is the truth, if they dont want to cover something that is against there beliefs, they simply ignore, that is why we have Rush Limbuagh and Orielly

Let them believe what they want , those with faith and effort are reeking the benefits.

Idiots. what they should add is "by scientific study groups". Accuracy would be good after all....

Lord knows how many men will quit looking for solutions due to crap like this.

Average length is only 5 inches? Sweet man I must be pretty huge

Notice they have no sitations, and not to mention that as discussed on this forum, the penis has not received much scientific research. It's interesting how they tale topics that are important to men and then make them seem small and trivial. Then look at the acceptance of such wide spread ideas as the idea of metrosexuality, the real man is being lost in this supposed "modern" society. The "size" issue is a big issue with a very large group of men, and real men have insecurities, not simply stone faced heartless beeer swilling club dragging buffoons as we are shown to be, some of us hapen to be able to articulate a sentence or two on occasion. So I will shout at the top of my lungs forget the media and there slanderous propoganda.

I am moving this this is pointless and does nothing for us

Bah! I agree!!!

I watched Fight Club again last night, and I decided "screw what anyone else thinks. I'm not making any apologies for who I am. You want some metrosexual pansy boy, be my guest. I'm not buying into that crap." Of course...I already decided that before. But that movie makes my blood rush and my testosterone boil!!! I'M A FREAKING MAN!!!! I'M A FREAKING MAN!!!! WOOT WOOT!!

Yeah this article is not for real. You can see a ton of similar articles on the net posted by some good specialists. I can't understand how he doesn't even mention the possibility of Natural Penis Enlargement. He is just talking about pumps and surgerys but forgeting to talk about the stuff that really works and that is Penis Enlargement. Those guys should really open their eyes.

Yes but it is so funny to read the naive bastards bullshit.

I too am surprised that NPenis Enlargement wasn't mentioned. Maybe we're considered to be a bunch of wackos by mainstream media. :D

Yeah I think we are considered like you said it Dario. It is interesting that the only media that seems to be packed with Penis Enlargement stuff is interenet. I never saw anything related to natural Penis Enlargement on the TV or some magazine (well DLD was in a GQ) if I am not wrong. But internet is still the primary source for Penis Enlargement. Did any of you guys seen anythin related to natural Penis Enlargement on TV or in some magazines. I saw that show on MTV the other day called Urban Myth show, where they research some stuff and then say if it is true or false. They were talking about the breasts enlargement creams the other day and the answer was false. I immediately thought to myself that this would be the good place to review natural Penis Enlargement. I bet they would say FALSE.

I've heard the term 'Metrosexual' a lot lately. I can kinda guess what it means (lefty-liberal, anti-masculine, and anti-hetero), but nobody has ever told me. Can anybody clear this up?

It means straight men who have 'gay' (or perceived as gay) ways of life.

Not what you're thinking though...I took a quiz on this a while back and some of the questions to determine metrosexuality were:

1) Do you go to a barber or salon?
2) Do you use skin moisturizers?
3) Do you like the movie American Psycho?
4) Do you have prettier hair than your girlfriend?
5) Do you get manicures?

stuff like that.

Haha. My dad gets manicures. But that's because he's a doctor and doesn't want his hands looking gross for his patients.

I don't think that article was ever printed in GQ, was it?

Sorry for taking this thread on a sidetrack. That sounds a little less derogatory than I thought. Back in Nam we used to call those guys "Sweet-dudes".

I live in a pretty academic environment right now. I'm constantly subjected to ideas about the value of putting aside masculinity in favor of some more cosmopolitan virtue. A term like 'metrosexual' makes me put my guard up.
I think a lot of anti-masculinity is what generates talk about men's 'misconception' or 'pre-occupation' with peinis size. Don't get me wrong. I'm no sexist. In fact, after a couple of weeks visiting this site, I think that a lot of us should re-evaluate our conceptions of gender roles in sex and our sensetivity to female needs in sexual relationships. All I'm saying, is that there's nothing wrong with men taking pride in the most masculine part of themselves, and trying to improve themselves along those lines.

Aw Hell, I'm just rambling. It's cool to have a bigger dick!
