I'm pretty sure no one has mentioned this book here before, but it seems like an excellent read. John Holmes a life measured in inches is a book written by and details accounts from legendary actors and colleagues of Holmes.

Why read a book about some sleazy pornstar? Because that sleazy pornstar single penisly changed the face of the industry. In this book are some interesting facts and stories such as the idea that John Holmes wasn't actually 13.5 inches, in fact both his wives and mistresses claim him to be actually 10 inches (which is still enormous).

I haven't ordered the book yet as I'm holding out on a newer edition.

I think the amazon summary says it all best:

"The tree of life represents the roots of man. The branches are the different directions a man can take, live or exist. When you're dead, those that you leave behind will put you in a part of that tree. It represents what was, what is and what will be. It's eternal." -- John Holmes Most people might, understandably, predict that the world’s first star was a woman, but they would be wrong. John Curtis Holmes was just a simple country boy from Ohio when he moved to California in 1964. It was the infancy of hardcore, so in Holmes' wildest dreams, he could not have predicted the turbulent ride on which he had embarked by publicizing his private parts. With the fame he achieved by playing his most famous character - a gun toting detective named Johnny Wadd - came money. Holmes was pleased to spend it on his wife and mistresses, but soon was in over his head after he became addicted to cocaine. Unfortunately for Holmes, in the years that followed, his addiction led him into several desperate choices - including setting up a robbery at the home of Ed Nash, a powerful L.A. nightclub owner. The robbery resulted in one of the most gruesome, unsolved, multiple-murders in Hollywood history. Amazingly, before his untimely death in 1988, Holmes regained his momentum, remarried and rebuilt his life and career. However, the grave consequences of his addiction, his association with the Wonderland murders, and his AIDS-related death made him an infamous figure in pop culture. Digging past the stigmas, John Holmes: A Life Measured in Inches - the first biography about John C. Holmes - unearths the human being behind the penis and proves that there was more to him than could be measured in inches. This biography includes material from the authors' new interviews with: Laurie Holmes, Bill Amerson, Bob Chinn, Julia St. Vincent, Detective Tom Lange, Detective Frank Tomlinson, Paul Thomas, Ron Jeremy, Seka, Marilyn Chambers, Candida Royalle, Rhonda Jo Petty, Dr. Sharon Mitchell, Bill Margold, and many others! John Holmes: A Life Measured in Inches also includes 114 reviews of John's most notable feature films, 86 loops synopses, 3 photos sections with rare nudes, and a 21 page comprehensive filmography.

You are really a co-author? That is incredible. Did you speak with John or was all this research? Could you send me a copy for my review?

John Holmes passed away in 1988; we did not know John or speak with him directly, but we did interview 35 people for this project which is the first and complete biography on John Holmes. My co-author, Jennifer Sugar, began research and interviews for the bio in 2004. Late in 2006, she invited me to be her collaborator and the book (including a current filmography, 86 loops and 114 film reviews) was published August 8th, 2008, on what would have been Holmes' 64th birthday.

I am sure that if you write directly to our publisher, Ben OHydromaxart @ BearManor Media, expressing your desire to review our bio, he would be more than happy to send you a copy. As I mentioned, if you or anyone has any questions regarding this book, I am pleased to oblige.

You can watch the movie based on the murder John Holmes was involved in by watching "Wonderland" at this site http://www.movies-links.tv/movies/wonderland/ It's a real good movie and provides alot of insight into John Holmes life during that time. Don't forget to checkout the latest releases on the site while your there because it's all free.

Woah, this is REALLY crazy. Never expected the co-author of the book to show up! I always wondered if John actually went to Med. School? From a short interview I had seen of Holmes he actually seemed intelligent.

John did not attend medical school as he had mentioned in the documentary "Exhausted", but according to him, he did some nude modeling at UCLA during the mid-late sixties. This is quite likely as we discovered throughout the interview process that he actually entered adult entertainment in 1965. During the first couple of years, he did nude modeling and short nudist films before he transitioned to softcore, simulated loops, and eventually hardcore loops and features. John was a very bright individual, although he was not formally educated. He was also quite street smart and charismatic; he was an astute observer of people. Don Fernando and Ron Jeremy both told us that John could converse with confidence on just about any subject - he also loved to embellish/entertain and he was a first class hustler.
