Can you actually build your chest by doing push ups? Or are they only good for a cheap pump and otherwise useless? Do they at least give the pecs some kind of shape?

I like doing them, but I'm thinking maybe it's time to pick up the heavy dumbbells again.

Hey Godsize the push ups do a very good job for me. They give me some good definition and some decent pump. I don't like weights so my routine is like abs lower back raises on swiss ball, push ups and then pullups. I combine that with running for a complete workout. The weights bulk me too much and I loose my coordination and speed for my tennis game hehe.

Push-ups are KING, the military live of sit-ups and push-ups.
In the British military they make ya into a MONSTER killing machine hahahah, yes they work.

They do work and they are really handy when you don't have any weights at your disposal. Personally I prefer Bench Presses since Push Ups tire you out way to quick since multiple musclegroups are under pressure. Also they are bad for your back (I heard). With Bench Presses you can focuss on the pecs and if you want them to grow real quick I really recommend these.

Its good to focus on more than one muscle IMO. And also, they're only bad for your back if you do them with bad form.

I do pushups just for my Tri's and they work great!!

There will come a point were you would not gain any more mass from just pushups, because the resistance is just not high enough. Can you get huge arms if you only have a 20 lb dumbell but do 100 reps? No. They are good if you are starting out, and will give you some definition. Or do bench first, then pushups.

Push up are great for strength and endurance at the same time. Push up will make you stronger. Push up will build your chest muscles up to a certain point. There are plenty of different hand positions you can use to target different parts of you chest, shoulders, and triceps, while doing push ups. If you want to get some serious strength and endurance form push ups work your way up to 100 non stop push ups and by the time you can do 100 push ups non-stop you will be very happy with the results on your body! Both visually and physically! :)

I like doin pushups after a heavy chest and tri workout to completel fatigue the muscles. Sometimes I can only get like 1 or 2. They are good for overall fitness too because you have to balance yourself. Try doin diamond pushups or on one leg to mix it up.

The way around this, or what I do is have 40lb's on your back .... than do them  notice the change baby....as you get used to 'um'' ya put more weight on ya back.....the British military do this out in the wild when fighting and theirs no weights .... they use rucksacks and a mates bodyweight, tell ya what? - it works.

Yes we did them a lot in the army too. We did a lot of running and a lot of calisthenics. This is all you need man. Red which is the best trained army in Britain? Gurkhas, SAS or something else. We had some mountaneering special troops doing training in our mountains some time ago. Those guys really looked trained.

I might get back into them, never seemed to get much from em. I'm usually at the machines anyway

Honestly, all the British military is trained to the HIGHEST standards, we have one of if not the fittest military in the world, we have and can handle ANY terrain from snow, jungle, mountains to damn deserts.

But the MOST fittest would be the SAS and also the Royal Marines, I mean SAS, ya cant join .. yav already been in the military for a long time, and built ya fitness up..to a HIGH HIGH HIGH Standard .... but the Royal Marines, holy shit ... they take raw civies and BREAK THEM, CHEW UM UP and SPIT UM OUT...they look like the Hulk afterwards....real FIT are the Royal Marines.

The Gurkhas, I dont know about there training ... but they are a mean bunch of fuckers LOL, in the Falklands War they sneaked up behind the Argentinian soldiers and slit their throats.

So the answer to the question is , ultimate = SAS, but thats special forces so its Royal Marines.

Hahahah Red you really know how to describe those bad ass motherfuckers. I think they are all one highly trained killing machines. I am gonna do some search on the net about those Gurkhas and SAS because I am interested in that kinnda stuff.

HI GUYS , NEW TO Penis Enlargement AND FAIRLY NEW HERE doing ok with pe but my problem is im 226 lbs 5 ft 11in with a 38 inch waist the rest of me is not bad but i can not get rid of the fat on my waist any ideas? im 49 yrs old and dont take any drugs of any kind but i think my testoster one is down i ordered the ROP and wearing that for 4 days now no reaction yet. any other suggestions such as how much cardio i ate nothing for 2 days last week only drank water and gained a pound totally confused GLADIATOR2

Hm well I can give you a tip about cardio. Do some cardio that suits you like running, stationary bike etc. Well I am no expert on the other stuff because I mainly jogg and I can say that if you will choose running build up to 5 30min runs a week at fairly slow jogging pace. Also look on your food intake, eat healthy and refrain from eating after 9pm. Also do some light calistenic exercises like push ups pull ups, dips and sit ups to build some muscle mass so your fat can burn faster.

ok do:
eat healthy
do cardio as long as your eating healthy
lift weights (more muscle= more metabolism)
drink water when your craving for a snack, or before you go out to eat
don't
stop eating (slows your metabolism, will start chewing up your muscle)
eat unhealthy food (popcorn, honey buns, etc.)
watch your weight constantly (it might just be water weight)
sit on your butt and watch tv

alright that's what i can think of, good luck.

Well for starters, push ups can be done with a different approach.

1) You are doing the usual push ups, the more you can in a row : ENDURANCE, CARDIO

2) As soon as you can do 5 push ups, put your legs higher, say ona chair. If that is too easy, put those legs even higher. If that is still too easy, make it a one hand push ups, legs on the floor, arms on a table for example. If you still can do 5 of those push ups, then lower your body near the floor.

I personally do the one hand push ups. Think about it.

In order to keep your body straight, how many muscles do you need when performing 1 hand push ups? You said it... ALL of them ( nearly) be it, the abs, back, triceps, pecs, even legs !

For the biceps and other part of the back that do not work, you should do chin/pull ups. YES it works the back also. if you can do more than 5 in normal position, try to move your legs foward. Now that's somehow more difficult :)

In the army, at least the canadian one, in which I'm working at atm, there pushing you at the max number of push ups you can do. Most of the time, they would tell you do do a half way push ups, ( you are now in the middle, not completely to the ground) and then keep ths position until they decide it's all good :)

When you are able to do 1 hand push ups, with your legs elevated, come back and tell me if push ups are good or not...
